Latino Men in Mental Health Career Event

September 23, 2026 | Denver Foundation Leadership Center

At Latinx Therapist Project (LTP), we recognize that Latino men continue to be underrepresented in the mental health workforce, both as members of the Latino community and as men within a field where male representation is already limited. This gap highlights the importance of creating opportunities where Latino men can see themselves represented, connect with professionals who share similar backgrounds and experiences, and feel encouraged to pursue careers in mental health.

With this in mind, LTP developed the Latino Men in Mental Health Careers Event, an intentional space designed to bring together Latino men at different stages of their educational and professional journeys. Whether exploring mental health as a potential career, pursuing an undergraduate or graduate degree, or considering their next professional steps, this event provided an opportunity to learn directly from Latino men already working in the field. Throughout the evening, attendees engaged in meaningful conversations with Latino mental health professionals who shared their personal journeys, educational pathways, professional experiences, challenges, and advice. Through panel discussions, interactive conversations, and networking opportunities, participants were able to ask questions, explore different career possibilities, and build connections with professionals and peers.

Beyond career exploration, this event was about representation, community, and belonging. We wanted to create a space where Latino men could feel seen, supported, and inspired by others who have navigated similar experiences, while recognizing the important role they can play in strengthening the mental health workforce. Through this initiative, LTP continued its commitment to increasing representation, expanding access to mental health career pathways, and supporting the next generation of culturally responsive mental health professionals in Colorado.

Event Highlights

The event featured seven Latino mental health professionals and a dedicated moderator, who shared their experiences and insights through two engaging panel conversations:

  • Personal Journeys: Panelists reflected on their backgrounds, educational experiences, challenges, and the personal and professional journeys that led them into the mental health field.
  • Career Pathways Conversation: Attendees explored different educational and professional pathways, received advice about entering the field, and learned about opportunities available within behavioral health.

The evening also included dinner, networking, and opportunities for attendees to connect directly with panelists in a welcoming and supportive environment.

With seven attendees, the event created an intimate setting that encouraged open dialogue, thoughtful questions, and personal connections. Through these conversations, we hoped to inspire participants to continue exploring their interests and envisioning their own futures in the mental health profession.

A special thank you to LIFT for its support of this initiative and its commitment to creating opportunities that uplift and empower Latino communities. We are also grateful to the Denver Broncos Foundation for supporting our efforts to strengthen and diversify Colorado’s mental health workforce.

We also want to recognize the panelists, moderator, volunteers, and community members who contributed their time and experiences to make this event meaningful.
